FE Peacock cuts energy bills with bungalow Retrofit

07 July 2010

FE Peacock has 'retrofitted' an existing bungalow close to its Bourne headquarters with energy-saving technologies that could save the householders as much as 70 per cent of their energy bills.

The bungalow, located on Cherry Holt Road in Bourne, is now more energy efficient and has reduced its CO2 emissions.

FE Peacock designed the retrofit project and managed the construction on site. The entire retrofit of the bungalow was completed in only fifteen days.

Innovative energy-saving technologies that have been fitted to the bungalow include solar photovoltaic panels and improved insulation.

LarkEnergy - a company that focuses on developing cleaner, locally sourced energy for new and existing housing developments - assisted with the retrofit. The company was recently launched as part of the Larkfleet Group.

With the retrofitted energy-saving technologies in place, this particular bungalow will benefit from a 50 to 70 per cent saving in energy bills.

FE Peacock regularly builds homes that meet the Code for Sustainable Homes Level 3 - some 25 per cent above the standard building regulations specification for energy performance - highlighting the company's commitment to creating affordable, well-built and energy-efficient homes.

The recent bungalow retrofit, however, shows how it is possible to improve the energy efficiency of existing homes that have the potential to be updated with energy-saving technologies to cut bills and reduce CO2 emissions.

FE Peacock is already working on a similar project launched by The UK Centre for Economic & Environmental Development (UK CEED) to adapt a house in Peterborough with innovative solutions to make it more sustainable and energy efficient.

Karl Hick, managing director of FE Peacock, commented: "This is an ideal opportunity for FE Peacock to demonstrate its expertise in providing energy efficient housing. Not only do we provide new affordable sustainable housing but we are also implementing energy saving technologies in existing housing."

Larkfleet Group recently won a prestigious Green Apple Award for its environmental activities. The Green Apple Awards are given by the Green Organisation, an independent environment group dedicated to recognising, rewarding and promoting environmental best practice around the world.

Another recent win celebrated by the company was a Business in the Community Carbon Positive Award. The awards were open to businesses and organisations with low carbon projects that inspire others to take action.
